PRE-LICENSE COURSE
To obtain a real estate license a pre-license course is required in order to qualify to take the West Virginia exam. The pre-license course is offered by correspondence (home study) or by attending classes. Classes are held in HUNTINGTON and PARKERSBURG and are available several times a year (click on class schedule above). Correspondence courses use the same books and materials given in class and you may start the course at any time and work at your own pace.

SALESPERSON AND BROKER
The salesperson course is the first course you take to get a license. The broker course is also given to qualify for a broker's license after you have a minimum of two years experience as an active salesperson.

CONTINUING EDUCATION
To maintain an active license you must complete a 7 hour continuing education course each fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). The Real Estate Career Center offers several continuing education courses on a correspondence basis (see Course Description below)

COURSE DESCRIPTION
PRE-LICENSE COURSES

PRE-LICENSE SALESPERSON......S400.00
West Virginia requires a 90 classroom hour (six credit hour) course prior to taking the state exam. The course consists of:

Real Estate Principles & Practices (30 hours) Provides an introduction to listing, selling, advertising, math, agency, condominiums, and property management.

Real Estate Law (20 hours) Sets forth a basic frame work for purchase and sale agreements, legal descriptions, ownership rights, contracts, deeds and estates.

Real Estate Finance (20 hours) Introduces the lending institutions, methods, instruments and procedures in financing including government programs.

Real Estate Appraising (20 hours) Explores the purposes and steps of an appraisal, values, and three methods of estimating value.


PRE-LICENSE BROKER.....S475.00
The additional 90-hour (six credit hour) course prescribed for a broker's license consists of the same hours in each subject area but has more in- depth coverage in each area and a broker's supplement is provided covering closings and trust accounts.
